The cave complex falls within the Regional Natural Park of the Red Gorge and Frasassi. The complex is formed by an enormous series of underground environments, the first of which, easily accessible to the public, is the Ancona Abyss, a huge cavity measuring 180 x 120 meters with a height of 200 meters; it is so vast (with over 2 million cubic meters of volume) that the Milan Cathedral could easily fit inside it without any issues.

            Discover more

The discovery of the Frasassi Caves (Grotta Grande del Vento) dates back to September 25, 1971, by Rolando Silvestri of the Speleological Group Marchigiano CAI of Ancona, who identified its entrance during the expedition led by Giancarlo Cappanera.
